The Commander considered himself the pragmatist of the Triumvirate. Gerik provided the foot soldiers, Satis provided the media support—and millions of dollars—but he knew Gerik and Satis each had personal agendas. So far, these agendas had been useful. Soon they would get in the way.

The New World Order had morphed for the better. Yes, it was still the same elite group of men—and OK now, reluctantly, a couple of women—who were calling the shots. His fellow Knights were in all the right places, the key positions of power. As they had for the last 150 years, they controlled banking, oil, politics, the drug trade, and the intelligence community. All the strands necessary, finally, for world domination.

Their use of this current “controlled conflict” to change the landscape of the Middle East was heartwarming, as was the way Hegel’s “New World Order” had morphed into an American agenda that called for beefing up the military, “challenging regimes hostile to our interests and values,” and “accepting responsibility for America’s unique role in preserving and extending an international order.”

In other words, empire expansion. They now had people in power who were not afraid to promulgate these values—in fact, many of them had signed those very principles for public viewing!

He was thrilled to be present when the United States had finally reached the point where the few, the educated elite—the Knights of Eugenia and their friends—were changing the world map.

A few soldiers would have to die, but that was Hegel’s point. The state is “the march of God in the world” and has supreme rights against the individual. The state was calling on men and women to make that ultimate sacrifice. It was for their own good that they were not consulted.

God, he loved a good controlled conflict. And this was one hell of a great one.

He was proud to be the point man on the ground. He put his pedal to the metal and drove down the dusty highway in Iraq.
